So Cal
I am hoping some of you fellow CRA Wiz users can help me out.

I am trying to pull a report of all of the census tracts in our AAs to include the zip code for each tract.

I am able to pull the listing of the tracts, but I cannot get the zip code for the tracts all at once, only one at a time. With 2054 tracts in Los Angeles County, individual lookup is just not an option.

Is this possible in CRA Wiz? If so, how? IF not, is there anywhere else I can get this info in batch form?

Thank you!

Did you call support? They are awfully nice and no question is too odd.

The problem is a phenomenon in mapping called "nesting". Neither census tracts nor ZIP codes fit into ("nest") one another neatly. Therefore, it is impossible to have an accurate correlation between the two. The best thing you can do is to get a map with census tracts colored in the "background" and ZIP code boundaries overlaying the tracts. That will give you an idea of the relative relationship between the two geographies. I don't know the CRA Wiz mapping software capabilities. But,we create maps of all types for banks, and on occasion we have used this type of map when the bank's records are poorly geocoded. However, we use a different mapping system.

This will not be the most beautiful report you have ever seen but try this: In Custom Reports, filter on the geography you're looking for. For the column field, select Census Tract; for the row field, select Zip. Check off 'Display rows and columns with zero values.' I just did this for Hartford County in CT and was able to get a result. In LA county you may have too many values. If you're able to get a result, you can export it to Excel and fiddle with it to make it pretty.

Did you know there is a PCi Wiz user lounge now? I haven't spend much time there, but I bet once it gets some traction there will be a number of users with expertise who can help with similar questions. Contact your account manager for log-in details.

I am looking at a map of LA ZIP code 90059. It shows that 90059 includes all or part of 13 census tracts and 10 of those tracts are partially in at least 1 adjacent ZIP code. Furthermore, one of those tracts, 2408 is in ZIP codes 90059 and 90061 and 90002 and 90003. You can identify what tracts are in which ZIP codes and which ZIP codes are in which tracts, but almost always there are multiple relationships like I just noted in 1 tract in LA. If you are interested I would be happy to e-mail you a pdf copy of the map I am talking about to help you understand the problem. What is the purpose of your project? If I understand what you are trying to accomplish, perhaps I can make a suggestion that would be helpful. I am sorry that I can't comment on CRA Wiz, but the relationship I explained holds true no matter what software you are using. If you want the sample map just pm me. I won't be able to send you the map until Monday because I will be out of my office the remainder of the week. Hope this helps

It is certainly true that when you run the CRA Wiz report you will see overlaps between census tracts and Zip codes.

That was me above. At 6:45 a.m. it's easy to forget logging in. Send me a private message if you'd like. We can talk through your issue and perhaps create the report as well.

As Len says it will be easier to understand the best way to approach your problem with some context regarding what you're trying to accomplish.
