We had someone who wanted to open an account but the only ID he had was a Matricula Consular card and an Wisconsin DL. Does Wisconsin allow someone to get a DL using a Matricula Consular card?

This was an odd situation because the person has supposedly lived in Iowa for two years but has a Wisconsin DL that was issued in 7/05 and the Matricula Consular card for ID. Iowa doesn't allow undocumented aliens to get a DL so I'm guessing that why the DL was from Wisconson, but wanted to find out for sure.

Interesting, not only can a Matricula Consular card be used, but a Guatemalean Consulate card will be accepted as well.

Kind of scary, considering what I've heard and read about the accuracy and legitimacy of those documents.

I am hoping that WI will soon get with the program and require proof of residency before issuing an identification of any sort!

Proof of residency is not enough. IMO, an id should not be issued at the DMV. Aliens should have to provide verifiable documentation allowing them to be here with a waiting period to follow while the government actually DOES verify the documentation.

sorry. Didn't mean to turn this into a mini-rant. I just know that the majority of what's out there is illegal and no one is doing anything beyond talking to stop it. Some Homeland Security, right?

So, I see that as of this past Tuesday we have new DLs and IDs. Are they going to be harder to get...am I going to be more comfortable relying on them to verify identity?
