What are the usury limits on loans in Tennessee? Does it make any difference if you are a national bank or a state chartered bank?

I too am interested in usury. It appears to be one of the most avoided topices around. A couple of years ago we had someone from TN dept of financial institutions address this topic at a quarterly compliance meeting. He didn't provide any written info and for the life of me I can't remember a darn thing he said. Good Luck to the both of us!

It looks like all the information you need is here.

What the link says, in summary, is: For Tennessee, the legal rate and judgment rate of interest is 10%. The general usury limit is 24%, or four points above the average prime loan rate, WHICHEVER IS LESS.

There are special rules for "national" banks - see para 2 on the link above.
