I received this email today - have you heard of this?

Locked your keys in your car????

If you lock your keys in the car and a spare key is at home, call someone on your (or someone else's) cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button of your key fob (clicker), holding it near the phone on their end. Your car doors will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object you could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk!).

Editor's Note * It works fine! We tried it out, and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!
Friends Note * I locked the car and had my youngest daughter call me while I was far away from the car. I clicked “open” into the phone and I could hear the car doors unlock through her cell phone. My daughter confirmed that, sure enough, the doors opened.

Me and my co-worker tried this they gave me the clicker to their car i then placed the clicker on top of the mic(talk piece) and after a few tries it worked it could be faulty, but we believe that it works!!!

The compliance officer in me says, that this requires testing...

Snopes, UrbanLegends, etc. all say it is not true and can't work with current technology (different wave lengths or some such thing). More testing needed by skilled compliance folks!

start the testing, I would like to know, this would really help someone out if it worked like state to state etc.

I think that remotes use radio waves not audio waves. This is like saying I'm stuck in a dark room so I will call my friend with a flashlight and he can shine it the phone so I can see!

Ha ha that would be delightful now wouldn't it?
Like DQ says let the testing begin - Now I can see myself doing this and calling the hubby and explaining to him what he has to do with the remote and I'm sure he'll tell me quite plainly what to do with mine.

The skeptic in me is saying - yeah right...but hey - someone should test it and prove us all wrong

On the flashlight thought - now that's just funny!

We recently bought a truck and the salesman told us about the cell phone and key fob thing. We didn't test it out yet, (We have keyless entry)but it certainly is an interesting concept.

I tried this and it works.

First you call a friend. Have them locate your other set of keys.

Since you’re not home, they must smash a window to gain access to your home. After they find the keys, they must then explain to the police why they just entered your house through a broken window.

While you are waiting, you should survey your surroundings for large heavy objects (ie. a brick). After you’re done laughing at your friend who was on the verge of being handcuffed, you step back three paces from your car and hurl the brick through the window.

You can now enter your vehicle.

Aren’t cell phones wonderful?

A friend of mine e-mailed this to me also. I asked him if he knew if it worked. He told me he and wife tried it and it did. The mother of my daughter's boyfriend told me a co-worker of hers tried it and it worked for her also.

Unfortunately, I only have one clicker... If I lock my keys in the car, the clicker will be locked in as well...

My husband and I tried it and it didn't work, but we hadn't used the extra 'clicker' in over a year so maybe that had something to do with it. Don't know?

Sure would be nice if it did work!

You guys are aware that you don't have to actually lock your keys in the car right?

Of course spivol, but, if I didn't leave the keys in the car, it wouldn't be accurate testing, eh? (hmmmm... methinks that we will use fiance's car and keys for test... or even better, the boss's extremely dopey secretary's...)

I do not want to be the smarty pants but even if your the purson sending the signals phone could recieve a signal from a keyless entry device, your shotty cell phone speaker could not produce the frequency.

I am a serious doubter.

I tried it. It didn't unlock the car, but three dogs ran up to me.
