Does anyone know whether the new flood insurance bill passed on 11/21/2005 changed the penalty from $350 to $2,000 for noncompliance?

I haven't heard about this bill passing. Do you know the Bill Number? If so, go to www.thomas.loc.gov and search for it under "Bill Summary & Status." You should be able to find a link to a copy of the bill you can read to find out the answer to your question. (I don't know the Bill No. or I'd do it.)

Now I know that on the 21st a bill was passed to enhance the borrowing authority of the National Flood Insurance Program - this was H.R. 4133. I've not been able to locate anything else.

shreddic, if you know more specifics I'd be interested too.

I read this article somewhere. Since it was "approved", does that mean it's final?

Panel Approves Flood Insurance Increase

The House Financial Services Committee has approved legislation (H.R. 4320) to increase the borrowing authority of the National Flood Insurance Program from the current $3.5 billion to $22 billion.

The bill also would increase the program’s maximum coverage limits to $335,000 for residences and $670,000 for churches and businesses, and would increase fines for lenders who do not enforce the mandatory purchase requirement from $350 per
violation to $2,000 per violation. The committee approved an amendment that removes the original bill’s 500-year flood plain mandate and replaces it with a requirement that the Government Accountability Office study whether flood insurance should be required for areas with a moderate flood risk. Also approved, by voice vote, was a managers’ amendment that, among other things, would require lenders to provide notice, along with the standard hazard insurance notice, that flood insurance is available to all homeowners,
not just those in a designated flood plain.

House Bill 4320 has gone nowhere. House Bill 4133 has no increased penalties in it.

I'm sorry. I misread that.

As far as I know then it is still awaiting Senate approval.

Just for the record, the *correct* URL for Thomas is thomas.loc.gov. Sorry!
