Our bank has made some expansion recently and we now have our home office and two branches in one county outside of an MSA. We have two branches in an MSA. For purposes of updating our policy, how do we calculate the "Median Family Income"? In the past, we have simply used the income for our home county, but now our self-defined assessment area has grown to include a total of 6 counties, 4 of which are in the MSA. Thanks in advance for the replies.

MSA median family incomes are available for each MSA and Metropolitian Division. An MSA Median Fanily income is available for each state that covers all Non Metropolitian counties in the state.

You do not need to, and should not be calculating your own MSA median Family incomes. You MUST use the Median Family incomes provided by the government.

Right, but in our policy, it lists the median family income for the county - do we just list it for both the coutny where we have our home office and the one for the MSA where we have branches?

I'm not sure what you are using the county data for. So not sure what to tell you.

Your policy may say use individual county but what good is it if examiners do not use the same figures. Using county data will distort the income classification of census tracts and borrower income clasifications that are already designated using the MSA and NON MSA Median Family income established for your geographies.

If its an internal thing for what ever purpose the bank uses it for. Then I would say its your preference as to how you want the numbers placed

But for CRA or HMDA examination purposes use the correct MSA and Non MSA numbers.
