Hey -z-! Every once in a while I think I see you out and about but you're doing that awful unregistered thing. What ever caused YOU to go underground?
Your next coke's on my tab in memory of some of the best thought out posts that used to be.
I was in the cooler way too much. I went unregistered to try to cut back. I also did it because ron did--I love to tweak him. I will make you a promise Truffle Royale. I will sign all my posts with -z-. Thanks for the drink. What can I get for you?

There is an old drug store near my office that has a grill and an old soda fountain. The power of Homestar's suggestion of a cherry coke may cause me to visit it for lunch today. Mmmmmmmm! -z-
Hope you got a chance to visit the drug store at lunch, z.
When I was a kid, I got to spend the entire summer two or three times with my grandparents. I lived in Southern California at the time, and they lived in a small town in rural Southeast Kansas. On summer evenings after dark, we'd walk the 8 blocks from their house to a local ice cream store downtown and get a wonderful fountain cherry Coke or root beer float. Those are some my fondest memories ... walking with my grandma after dark on hot evenings enjoying that cherry Coke and chasing lightning bugs.
Do you ever try to remember what it was like when you were a kid without a care in the world? (I can sometimes recapture that feeling, if only for a few moments before it flies away again.) <sigh>

Homestar--
My grandparents lived out in the country. Yes, I too have many wonderful memories of simple pleasures with my grandparents.
It is too bad that with the loving Father we have we don't more often feel like a child walking with our parent without a care in the world. (Not a feeling that we haven't a responsibility in the world, but nothing to worry about.) So, go find a old timey drugstore, buy a cherry coke or root beer float, walk after dark with your Father, and chase fireflies!
-z-
BTW: I didn't get to the drugstore today, but tomorrow is another day!

Homestar & Z...I did just that this weekend. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of my grandparents farm. We took the kids there yesterday. After eating frozen peaches and feeding the gold fish in the pond (a must) we took the kids to the creek to skip rocks and look for arrowheads. They had a blast and even though my Grandpa's lung cancer isn't going to allow him to be with us much longer, I really hope my kids will have some of the same memories that I do.

We used to hunt for arrowheads too. Now, it is illegal. If I have one regret about my marriage is that it did not happen soon enough for my kids to meet and know my maternal grandfather.
I take them back to the old farm house as often as possible. My aunt lives there now. She does not have grandchildren yet, so she calls my kids her grandchildren.

Illegal? Uh Oh! We didnt find any yesterday, but I know if we had went up on the bluff we would have, but I'm too afraid of snakes and really didnt want to wade the creek or drag out the john boat.
They live on the same farm that my grandma was born on. It's been in our family since 1856.

I didn't realize that hunting arrowheads was illegal? When did that happen?

Check your state law. It is illegal in some states to dig them up.

It may just be illegal on state and federal land. I read something about it last year, but I can't remember. -z-

I sure hope so! My family owns a pretty good size ranch in the panhandle (close to Western OK) and we find arrowheads (or pieces of flint) just about everytime we go out. I'm young but I still remember chasing fireflies and how fun it was. Up until I went to college, we lived in the country my entire life, so that was part of our entertainment.
