I have a question regarding donations for CRA. I know that the donations must come from the bank in order to qualify and staff contributions do not count. But, what if our holding company set up a foundation to raise funds for local charities? Would the fundraising efforts and donations the foundation receives be added to the banks contributions to the foundation for total credit? An example....our holding company has ABC Foundation. Bank contributes $10,000 to the foundation and supports a fundraiser, maybe a golf outing, where the proceeds go to the foundation. The outing raises $20,000 from staff and other community participants. The total check cut to the CRA qualified organization is $30,000. Will the full $30,000 qualify as the donation or just the bank's cut of $10,000?

It would only be the banks portion that was donated to the foundation. Also the portion that the bank would donate for the golf outing (using your example) only the amount that was given above the cost of the round of golf and dinner would qualify. You would also need information about the foundation so the examiners can see that the foundation is CRA qualified.
