When the bank decides to close an account due to multiple SAR filings, any advice on what to tell a customer that calls and starts asking questions? I know that we cannot tell them that we filed a SAR; and yes, the deposit agreement that the customers sign clearly states that the account can be closed at any time - without explanation. But it's nearly impossible to get account officers to agree to either simply tell the customer that we were following the deposit agreement, or to not give them a reason at all. Any advice? Any links to good info on the subject?

What we used to use at my previous employer was that we noted 'irregular' activity in the account.

We have a one line response that all employees give regardless of their position in the bank once the decision is made to close an account.."we no longer wish to provide banking services for you" As longas they hear that same line from every employee they call, most finally give up and accept the fact that we do not wish to do business with them. Any attempt at explaination only gets you into more discussions and more calls and more arguments and more complaints and more....and more...

Our standard phrase is that: management does an ongoing review of all accounts and advises us which ones to close.
Reasons are never given to us.
