This morning I called IRS to find out when the "fill-in" version of the new IRS Form W-9 would be out - they've got no idea.

Has anyone figured out how to get the document so you can fill it in on your computer? Our Loan Operations Department is struggeling with having to have each branch type the form in themselves (or even have the customer write it in). Seems we've done away with alot of our typewriters, then the issue of the form being "forgotten" if it's not attached with the rest of the loan documents.

It seems this isn't as much of an issue on the operations side, just the lending.

If you have the W-9 in a Word document, you can go to View - Toolbars - Forms and create an e-form that can be completed online and printed. If you need help, please call me at 301-774-6400 ext 6395 and I will be happy to walk you through it. It's really easy!

Thanks, unfortunately IRS created the form in pdf, and we are unable to copy/paste into a word document so that we can type the customer name, address and tax ID.
We tried to scan the document, which makes it a picture, we didn't accomplish what we wanted this route either.
Any suggestions?

My husband (the computer genius!) says there is a program you can buy called Omnipage that will allow you to copy pdf documents and convert them into Word docs that you can use. The program isn't cheap, but if you have other uses for it, you might be able to justify the cost. http://www.scansoft.com/omnipage/

Thank you for the info., I'll pass this on to our IS guru's and go from there.

I would use this process (it only sounds complex):

1) Use a screen capture program such as Screen Rip. If you can't find one, I can email it in .zip format. Shareware, 336K.

2) Grab the image - at this point it is on the clipboard.

3) Save it as a .jpg image.

4) Paste the .jpg into Word. Set image properties as "behind text".

5) Overtype the image - acts like a typical Word document.
If you use this alot, take time to set tabs and line spacing to simplify data entry.
