WOOHOO
You heard it first here - I've already voted and as I go so goes the country - republicans retain control of both houses, losing no seats in either house.

Sanity has prevailed. God Bless America!

When I reregistered a couple months ago, the girl had me mark some box so I could vote absentee. She told me that way I could have the option of voting from hom OR going to the polls. As it turns out, when I got my ballot material, i am a PERMANENT absentee voter! WTF?!

NOW HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET MY NIFTY VOTER STICKER?!?!

My predictions:

1) Democrats come close to taking back the Senate. The big shock is the Dems winning in Virginia. James Webb will be the next Senator from Va, ending George Allen's quest to become a viable candidate for the White House in 2008. The Dems will pick up seats in Virginia, Montana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. They might come short in Tennessee, Rhode Island, and Missouri. They also might lose New Jersey.

2) We will have Speaker Pelosi (unless the good ole' boys in the Democratic Party join together to stop her). The question will not be "will we have a Democratic majority in the House?" it will be "how large of a Democratic majority will we have in the House?"

Also, on November 8, 2006...the Presidential Primaries begin...expect to see Hillary announce her plans soon after the Democratic win in the midterms...and others not far behind her...

It's a given . . . . the Democrats will take control of the House and, with a little luck, the Senate. Control of the Senate will come down to New Jersey.

I don't think anyone really thinks the gop will still have control of the House. Nancy will make a really great Speaker!!

I have serious doubts as to whether absentee votes are actually counted in all elections.

i don't know if i can agree. i am under the impression that she is fiercely partisan. i want results, not "now we have 'political capital' and we are going to ram it down everybody's throats."

I agree and the best part will be how miserable the Republicans will be no matter what she says or does. Payback is a *&^%^

I have the same fear. I keep having visions of the female version of Newt Gingrich. The visions are not pretty.

I think the Dems will surely take the House. I am not anywhere near so certain about the Senate, however. I think the Rebulicans will hold Montana and Virginia, and it looks as if they may pick up New Jersey. That will take some of the sting out of losing Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Not about election results, but here's a prediction (and an interesting essay):

They aren't going to like her no matter what she says or does. I think she should just do what she feels is right and leave it at that.

Ahh....Queen Pelosi...

Hasn't the President been slammed for doing "what he feels is right", regardless of how the citizens may feel? Whats good for the goose...

Well, I've read some pretty anti-American stuff on this board before, but this article Becka has linked to may take the cake. Soldiers are unable to achieve victory, hate the Iraqi people, and will be disloyal; officers are treasonous, cowardly, and a bit nutty. Nice.

When, one wonders, will mutiny begin among the troops in Iraq? ...Next year, I'd guess. ... we simply cannot win. ...the Iraqis hate us and we, them ... our tactics don’t work and we can’t win... An officer’s loyalty is to his career, and to the officer corps, not to the country or to his troops.... There is a curious moral cowardice among officers.... Officers remind me of armed Moonies.

I think there are some serious doubts about electronic votes, as well. HBO is showing a documentary tonight called Hacking Democracy

I read an article on this topic and it scares the bejesus out of me. Ohio was hijacked in 2004 by some shady voting scandals and this doesn't make me feel any more secure.

I don't watch any Olberman. And making snarky comments doesn't really seem to be in line with agreeing to disagree. You are supposed to be smarter than anyone else in here. I'm sure you must realize that.

I am going to have to agree to disagree with you there, Sweetpeas.

Actually, I didn't realize that. I mean, there are a FEW people that I'm sure I'm smarter than...but not everyone.

I have to disagree with Montana. Senator Burns' opponent has led the race the entire way, and while the Senator has closed in on his opponent, I honestly believe that the Dems will win there. The same with Virginia...even though Senator Allen has led all the way (mostly), his attacks look as if they're backfiring, and the publicity of his staffers assaulting a heckler (like hecklers or not, they don't deserve to be physically assaulted)can not be a good thing. I agree with Bob Novak...the Dems will likely gain 5 seats...with control of the Senate being decided in Missouri and Tennessee...

I have a smartass comment that I think would crack you up, but it would be nasty to someone else (no sense in collateral damage to semi-innocent posters) so I'll let it go.

in 6 years can you be one of the liberal voters i can use as example of people that only care about the "team" winning?

we can have all of the ideological and philosophical differences in the world about how the government should operate but my "team" will always be the USA. i want US to win and we are not winning when we are at political civil war all the time.

There are no innocent posters - their usernames were conceived in original sin. But, you'll have to PM me, I suppose.
