It's good to see some Iowa folks on BOL! I was beginning to feel a little lonely!

I'm up in the northwest corner of the state - Sioux Center. I'm the Credit Dept Officer and am responsible for loan compliance. Most of my job is credit analysis and loan documentation. I've been a BOL user for about a year and it's been a great help. I can't tell you how often I read something in BOL and shortly after that one of our loan officer's has a question about that very topic. I sound so smart because of BOL when I can whip out an answer.

I found a great website with a bunch of fun animations. After all, we need a little diversion from thinking about regs all the time!!

Does anybody know how to outline part of another post to include in your reply? I think that is so helpful.

Cindy,
Would you please share the site where you are finding all these fun animations. Thanks...

Here is the link to the site but as you can see from the Picture Link Violations thread, there is apparently a lot of controversy concerning these little animations.

I used to live in Sioux City when I worked for the FDIC. Now I live in Nebraska, but travel Iowa often. I also speak for the Iowa Bankers Assoc.

If you don't have a copy of "The Iowa Banking Guide", call the IBA @ 800-532-1423 and order a copy ($75 for members). This is a GREAT guide explaining Iowa laws vs. Federal laws. I don't work in Iowa without it!

I agree with David that the Iowa Banking Guide is a great (and inexpensive!) resource for Iowa. Another tool I have found invaluable is a matrix that was published by the Iowa Division of Banking which lists allowable and non allowable fees on real estate secured loans. Not only does it tell you what is or is not allowed, it gives the cite in the Iowa Code if you want to check it for yourself. I can post the website for it on Monday if anyone is interested.

David, I went to Morningside College in Sioux City. I won't say when, but at the time I was there the biggest business in town was the stockyards!

Please provide info on how we can get this matrix. It sounds like something I would like to have.

BTW, an article I wrote on complying with the Flood rules is published in the Iowa Bankers Assoc - Disclosure magazine - in the Feb 2003 issue.

Here is the link but I can't get a link directly to the newsletter where it is located. But, you can get there if you click on "Banking", then on "Iowa Banking Review" and then click on "Spring of 2000" for the newsletter. Scroll down and you will see the Table of Contents on the left. Look for the "Allowable Fees and Costs Chart". I keep a copy of this above my phone!

The February Disclosure magazine hasn't made it to my desk yet, but I'll be looking for it and your article!

Let me get this right: you don't work for a HMDA bank, but you wish you could have sat in on the HMDA session? You need help!

I appreciate the compliment. The IBA has already booked me for a General Session next year (November 5-6) so you won't have an excuse to miss me this time. I look forward to meeting you in person.

Is your bank part of the Mississippi Valley Banker's Association? They are based in Davenport. I'll be conducting three seminars (Advanced Deposit/Operations, Advanced Lending & USA PATRIOT Act) in September for them.

Yes. I'm new so I haven't had a chance to attend any of their seminars yet, although I have been invited. I'll keep an eye out for the information on the one in September! Thanks!
