We have an employee that is going on a 6 week medical leave. Should we deactivate her passwords to our bank's databases and systems during this leave or is this an overkill?

I would deactivate. What's the down side of doing that?

No real downside that I can see other than the time involved.

Folks,

You might also consider barring the employee from accessing his/her workspace and conducting an audit of the work this person performs, dependent upon the position. It's not a penalty -- it's good security sense.
