This morning a customer took a picture of our Teller. She did not talk or authorize the customer to do so. He just took a snap shot of her and then gave her three pieces of candy. He is an older guy say 40 and she is only 20. Did he break any laws? The Mgr. knows the cusotmer and says he is a little "off". I'm afraid of just anyone taking picutres in our lobby for obvious reasons. What can we do? Should the local PD be notified? Any thoughts on this situation.

I would report it to the local authorities.

I agree--get the incident "on the record," just in case something happens later. Also don't let her eat the candy.

The manager should also be taking this more seriously...a stern talk with and warning to the customer is in order. Plus, NO ONE should be allowed to take a photo of any kind in a branch, without managements prior consent. This branch manager needs some follow-up security training. He is failing the branch and staff on many levels.

I do not know how large your branch network is, but perhaps also offering the teller a lateral transfer to another branch may also be appropriate.

This is excellent advice. I would be very concerned about anyone taking pictures in my branches- particularly pictures of the staff, and particularly a photographer who is 'a little off'.

I also agree with the suggestion to contact the authorities. Perhaps the local police have dealt with this guy and can provide some valuable insight. If necessary (depending on what new insight you gain), close his account and send him a letter letting him know he is unwelcome on any of your premises.

I'm sorry if this sounds like overkill, but I take harassment of branch staff very seriously, and I would not be willing to leave anything to chance in this situation.

I would also contact the authorities...

I had a similar situation happen with a teller a few years back and it turned out that the gentleman was 'wanted' for exposing himself in several cases in the area of the branch.

Because of our being able to put a name to the face, the cops were able to eventually prosecute. We did still move the teller to a different location for her safety.

A disorderly conduct charge could stick. Report it.
