It has been the impression of our operations department that a check returned once as stop pay could not be sent back through a second (or third, etc.) time. I have not been able to find anything to back this up. I know that a stop pay is valid for 6 months and stale dated after 6 months, so I thought maybe it was a misconception that they could not be sent back through. It seems that resubmitting it for payment would be pointless since we would return it stop pay for six months and then return it as stale dated after 6 months. After the 6-month period, I suppose it could slip through. Does anyone know if there is guidance that states that a check cannot be resubmitted for payment after it is returned stop pay? Thanks!
