I'm so excited. The boyfriend wanted a tool box from Sears for Christmas, and I was going to brave the mall this morning. I found it online yesterday for sale and got it, so I didnt have to go anywhere this morning. He wanted a black one, but I got the same exact one that he wanted, in a different color for 250.00 less. WOOHOO!!!

Anyone else find some good bargains? Best Buy had their HBO shows on sale for half price so I got the last season of Entourage for his stocking.

Tiger's Den!
Got a KitchenAid 5 qt. mixer for my mom at sears.com, free shipping, on sale plus a $20 mail in rebate, AND an additional $10 off because I bought it before 1pm today! Also got 4 pr. of jeans and 4 tops at Kohls.com for under $100 for my girls. Definitely a bargain!

My hubby & I decided not to buy for each other, and we're both in families that only buy for the kids. So.. we only have a girl and a boy to shop for... I hate shopping, so this is a good thing.

here and there
My baby's momma went to all the early bird sales and came back with bags and bags of stuff before I even got up this morning. I'm dreading looking at the credit card statement this month.

One of my employees got up at 3am to be at a store that opened at 4am. I'm sorry, but there is NOTHING that I want badly enough to get out of bed at 3am.

Somewhere
I spent $806.00 today but I got about 60% of my shopping done! the only farce was Kohl's, folks were waiting 2 hours in line, we turned around and left, nothing is that important to buy.

I'm in the market for a HDTV, walmart had a good deal but when I called they were gone. *shocked* So if anyone finds a super secret deal online somewhere, let me know! Has to be 1080p though, no use wasting money.

Online's the way to go - most places have free shipping and NO waiting in line! I got 1/2 my shopping done in about 15 minutes, and it's all being delivered to my door!

You'd think the stores would have figured out the customer service aspect of things by now and make it much more efficient. Maybe they figure the 100 people who DO stay in line make it worth it for the 50 who leave. At our local Best Buy, a woman was in line at 9:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Hope her family brought her some turkey....

Why insist on 1080p when nothing is broadcast in 1080p at this time? The only thing you will likely see in true 1080p is an hd DVD.

out of the frying pan...
I was stuck home with a nasty cold, but my friend braved Walmart and took her 18 month old daughter with because because the child is a hair-puller. She said it came in handy a couple of times.

my guess would be for gaming purposes. 360/ps3. Blu Ray looks sweet on HD. I have 300 on Blu Ray. Freaking awesome

How about because in the lifetime of a television purchased today, there likely will be things broadcast in 1080?

The larger the screen size, the more noticable the difference between 1080p and other resolutions. If you are considering a purchase of an HDTV with a screen size of 40-inches or larger, go for 1080p if you can afford it, and also consider a set that has 1080p/24 capability.

1080p/24 represents the frame rate of standard 35mm film transferred directly in its native 24 frames-per-second from a source (such as a film on a Blu-ray or HD-DVD disc). This means that in order to display this image on an HDTV, the HDTV has to have the ability to display 1080p resolution at 24 frames per second.

Also watch for 1080p processing only vs. 1080p input capability.

Of course, if you're looking for a deal, I'd stick with 1080i and let the 1080p develop and come down in price.

Way, way south.
Comp Guy, thanks for the info.

I am looking for a new TV, preferably something in the 50 inch range, but I am flexible.

Thoughts/recommendations with regard to plasma vs. lcd, specs, brands, etc?

Thanks....

I have a 50" LG plasma that is a 720p HDTV. I went with the LG as the glass is single pane, which cuts down on glare. Consider how bright the room is where you will watch the TV. If it's relatively dark or not too much glare, I'd go plasma. You get better viewing angles and a better picture with larger screens. If it's a bright room, LCD has less glare and the picture quality on the larger screens has improved with the technology. Do your homework! Research the various models to see what others are saying (of course, I went out to buy a Hitachi and came home with an LG!) When you get your tv, get a set-up dvd and manually adjust the picture. The factory settings basically max the contrast and you can manually adjust for a better picture.

When we were shopping for our TV he wanted to buy it on Amazon, I suggested that he use that as his research tool to pick a TV and then we go around to stores and compare prices. We went to Sears. They have great sales, and they price match, but we had to wait a long time to get it. So we went to a furniture store, that's big around Boise, and they also price match, and they had them in stock. Later to find out, after a hour of waiting for it, that they didnt have it but they took another 100.00 off the price and delivered it for free.
