Recently, our bank began scanning non-OnUs checks and submitting the images to our Processor for submission to the Fed. We are encountering problems scanning certain types of check which have very light Ink. One frequent example are MoneyGrams where the pay amount appears in Red Ink. This is slowing us down and we are having to photo copy the checks with a darker image and rescan the darkened photocopies.

We are hearing that some banks are rejecting items that scan poorly and refusing to accept them for deposit. We would like to avoid this if at all possible and we’re wondering what other banks are doing to address this same issue.

David, you might get more "play" for your post if you also put it in the Operations forum. Bankers from all over the country with imaging experience will have the opportunity to respond.
