If this is a duplicate post, pleae forgive me. I posted earlier and it didn't come up.

How do you provide generic deposit slips to your customers? Do you have them in a stand in the lobby or do customers request them from a teller? Do you require ID for generic deposit slips?

The most consternation here (small community bank w/o branches) is we downsized the deposit slip. The old ones were 7.5" x 3.25". The new ones are personal check size. We have had customers threaten to close their accounts unless we go back to the larger size. Nothing strikes fear in management's heart like that statement.

Please take a moment and tell me how you handle generic deposit slips. Thanks.

wish it was the Smoky Mountain...
We had too much split deposit fraud, so we took them out of the lobby area. Customers have to ask for them from the teller, so we passed it off as providing more personalized service. However, if they want a split deposit, they have to show id, or if the check is "questionable" that's being deposited. We also had a case where somone wrote his account number on all of them in the lobby, so that when the teller would encode the deposit slip, she would use the number provided by the crook, and he rec'd their deposits..And no, the customers using the counter doc didn't even question a different account number being written on it. They said they just thought it was some "bank number"..

They are completed by the teller or in the presence of the teller at the teller widow.

Ours are at the teller stations and must be requested. They are the same size as wallet checks/deposit slips.

Do you know the way to ...
A couple of years ago, we stopped using deposit slips (or withdrawal slips) altogether. We have duplicate receipts instead. The customer signs the bottom for any transfers or withdrawals, the teller keeps the original with his or her work, and the customer gets the "carbon" copy.

The storage space needed for the teller work has increased, since the deposit slips were about 4" x 7", and the receipts are 1/2 the size of an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet (although they're thinner paper stock).

So now the customers verbally tell the teller what transaction they want, the receipt is printed (and signed if necessary), and - supposedly - the customer will verify that the correct transaction was made. It's worked pretty well so far.
