Avoid Paying Twice on Cashier’s Check

Question:
We made a car loan and sent a cashier’s check to pay off the prior lender. The cashier’s check got lost. Can we go ahead and replace it?
Answer:

Not without risking having to pay twice. The only way to escape liability for a missing cashier’s check is to have an enforceable declaration of loss from a proper claimant.
