Privacy Compliance Software

Question:
I understand that some vendors are offering software programs that will allow a customer to set their own privacy standards. In the event a Web site did not meet the set standards, the site would not open on the customer's PC. Is this an issue that will effect a bank's ability to offer products and services online?

This is a reason E-sign laws require "demonstrable consent". The user must demonstrate that they can use your Web site and products offered over the Internet. If they can't do that, they do not qualify for the product.

To handle this some other way may allow the customer to sign up for a product online, to transfer amounts from accounts, but never see any change in terms notices. This could violate several regulations.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (out in beta now, soon to be released), this option is available. Bankers are currently addressing this issue thru the BITS council because it does present some problems, and has been shown to be inaccurate in how it reads website privacy policies.
