SSI Check Deposit Account Restrictions

Answered by:

Question:
Can a representative payee on a Social Security Income check deposit the check in his personal account? This is in Pennsylvania if that matters.
Answer:

Social security rules require that the Representative Payee keep the Social Security funds separate from personal funds. Depositing the Social Security check (or allowing it to be directly deposited) to a personal account of the representative payee is not allowed.
