OK, so I'm filing for divorce tomorrow. The divorce was not my idea but it is a step I need to take for myself instead of just reacting to the circumstances. Anyways, when it comes to dating, I am totally lost. What is the protocol?(I don't mean morally, I can date and still remain pure) but I mean is it too soon? Do I need to wait the 6 months and 1 day? uggh.

Swimware, I listen to some head doctor on my way home, Dr. Joy Brown. She has a one year rule. After a death, divorce or break up of a relationship she says that you must wait one year from the date of the divorce before dating, not the separation. It sounds pretty good. She says that you need that time alone to sort out "things" and understand yourself. If you go into a new relationship right away you'll end up repeating problems from the old relationship or something like that. Since I'm not in that position I don't pay really close attention, but what I've heard sounds reasonable. She's dead wrong on somethings in my opinion but on others she has a pretty clear head. But all in all, she is a smart woman.

And I have a theory about guys that get divorced. I think that they start to look for a new wife after 2-3 years. I call it the 3 year itch, kind of like the 7th inning stretch. That's just my theory though. Not that you're male or anything but agree with the head dr. and Tahdah, that you need to have time to figure things out and gain that independence.
