We are in the process of implementing Fedline Advantage. I am just wondering what other banks are doing for disaster recovery purposes. Are they setting up a PC in a different branch with the ability to access (and possibly a spare token)? Currently all our PCs which access are in our main branch, but this seems risky.

We converted in July. Our IT department set up another computer at another office with the ability to access Fed Advantage. We did not set up another token. The tokens we have individually will work on any computer that has access to Fed Advantage, so in a disaster I can just go to the other office and use my token and be able to work. Also, we have decided that each individual take their token home for this exact reason.

We haven't quite worked out the details of our disaster recovery processes for FedLine Advantage yet. We are a single branch, so we don't have the luxury of having a second PC at another branch. When I asked the Fed about getting a spare VPN device to store offsite (such as our records storage company), they told me that they don't typically issue devices for that purpose. However, they did tell me that in the event of an emergency, they can typically have a replacement device to us by the next day, or even the same day depending on what time we request it; I believe this also applies to replacement tokens.

I think our disaster recovery plan is going to be based on the ability to obtain a replacement device and hardware within a day, which is likely at least as long as it would take up to get set up at our alternate site.

We set up a terminal at a different branch. We were also told by the Fed that we can replace the device by the next day. We have replaced tokens. It takes more than a week. We have already had 2 break.

Does Fed have any recommendations for disaster recovery? It seems that they would have this thought out. Is their recommendation just to have an offsite PC with internet access and they overnight the token?

Our security officer does not like the idea of taking the tokens home. What if you forget it or its lost? Everyone talks about fed overnighting. That's still one day with no Fedline. Is that good enough for a recovery plan?

We asked the Fed if we could set up a "Dummy" token and lock it up at our backup location and they said no. They also said that no one could have 2 tokens set up. We had someone tell us to lock them up at our office overnight, but what if something happens to the office, the token is gone. We only have 4 people set up and in a disaster situation cannot risk having to wait for the Fed to overnight the token. Someone also suggested setting up an employee at another location. But, personally I don't want to set someone up who has no clue what they are doing, and have access to all that information. There just seems to be no way around having to take them home.
