We've seen an increase in counterfeit checks, especially corporate accounts. What sources are there for tracking this activity?

What kind of pre-employment screening should we do on prospective new employees? What are we required to do? What do you think of psychological testing? Are there particular questions you would recommend we ask all prospective bank employees?

In the Identity Theft PowerPoint presentation, there is a statement that tells you to never write your credit card account number on your check. It seems many vendors ask you to do this for proper account crediting. Any thoughts?

The bag with all the branch work was ready to go. And a good thing it was, because there was a new bank courier there to pick it up, and he was earlier than usual.

Please help me understand the difference between service providers referred to in 40.13 of Reg P and providers used to effect, administer or enforce a transaction in 40.14 of Reg P. For example where would Deluxe, Clarke American, etc. fall? It seems logical that checks ordered would fall into 40.14, but I have been told that confidentiality clauses are needed with check vendors. Examples of each category would be appreciated. Thanks. By the way, am I the only one having trouble with this?

We discovered some thirty days after payment that we honored an altered cashiers check. The check waspurchased and mailed, as a payment, to Chase and somewhere along the way Chase was removed as payee and a an individual name was entered on the face of the check (and it was a good job of alteration!). The individual got the item negotiated and now, because Chase asked the remitter why their payment was late, the remitter asked us about the check and we discovered we paid the altered cashiers check. Options??

I am the internal auditor at our institution and am in charge of reviewing employee bank statements each month. Our employees do not receive their checks, deposit tickets, etc. back in their statements, so my review is limited to what is on paper. I would like some tips on what exactly to look for on these statements. I realize that excessive deposits in relation to their salary is key, but I thought you might have some additional suggestions.
