I work at a satellite call center located at one of our Michigan credit union's branch offices. Recently, we have been required (and trained) to complete the recommended 2-person opening procedure for just our part of the branch building. Most of us at the call center are part-time. I'm very uncomfortable performing a security procedure as a call rep and am interested in my employer's liability should there be an incident where someone gets hurt. Do I have the right to refuse since I see this as potentially hazardous and not in my job description.

What should the bank do if money was taken out of a checking account then put into a savings account and then it disappeared? The money was electronically switched from one account to another.

I'm not a bank officer but I've been told that the bank's Directors & Officer's (D&O) Liability Policy will cover me as the designated Security Officer. Is this true?

Should a mutual savings bank have a "Safety Committee” or is it sufficient to have a Security Policy and a Security Officer?

Where can I find the most recent statistics regarding internal crimes committed within financial institutions? Our local law enforcement agencies don't keep track of this stuff.

I am looking for specific pre-packaged bank mock robbery scenarios for training purposes. Can anyone provide me with outlines or additional information.

What is a "security committee"? We already have BSA, Compliance, Human Resources, Audit and Executive Committees.

A customer visited a branch and requested that his account be closed, and wanted to take $50,000 in cash. The teller inquired as to the reason for the cash. The customer became irate and informed the teller that it was none of her business. The teller informed the customer that the cash would have to be ordered and the matter would have to be discussed with the Security Officer. The customer return a week later to inquire if the cash was ordered, and was told no, and that the officer would get in touch with him. The customer then withdrew the request. Should we consider filing a SAR for an unusual request for cash? A review of the customer's history showed that he had never conducted a cash transaction on the account. The customer also deposited a large check to another financial institution after the request was withdrawn at our institution.

Today, 10/6/10, we received multiple checks returned to our bank. They were all from one account at the paying bank, dated June through September. They were returned as forged signatures. I believe the liability falls on the paying bank, as these were not returned by the midnight deadline. What is the proper way to send these back to the paying bank? Do we do a check adjustment and state untimely return?

Sammy Smith, age eighteen, cashed a $3,000 cashier's check at our teller window last week. Today, as Security Officer, I learned that the check was fraudulent. Sammy has the proceeds of an insurance policy sitting in a UTMA account naming him as beneficiary (it was the reason, the teller told me, that the check was cashed for him). There is more than the amount of the bogus check in the UTMA account. Can we set off against the account to avoid having to take legal action against Sammy if he doesn't pay for the fraudulent check himself?
