My CTR question is this: Husband makes a deposit to his individual account. Later the same day, wife makes a deposit to her joint account with the husband. Individually, neither transaction is reportable. Aggregated, they exceed $10,000 and the husband can benefit from the whole. Do we need to file a CTR and if we do, can you help us out with the technicalities? Do we check multiple persons, multiple transactions? And what do we do about the information we don't have on file (for example, driver's license numbers and occupations)? We caught this on a system report that monitors daily activity by social security number. Two different tellers were involved and had no knowledge on the day of activity.

We have a large Hispanic population in our banking area and our tellers are getting all sorts of identification documents from them and are not sure which are considered proper ID and what the "legal" documents should actually look like. I've been told that some of the picture IDs look like homemade versions but it's hard to tell. The majority of these folks work for farmers and local manufacturing companies. Could someone direct me to some training information?

With all the counterfeit cashier's checks being given, how should we handle verifying that they are good and giving immediate credit on new accounts or for deposit?

I am looking for a checklist for bank employees to utilize in case of an extortion or kidnapping call to go along with the robbery and bomb threat kit I already have. I have the Employee Profile Form for the personnel file but no training or procedures for them to follow in case they are the victim or the receiver of such a call.

I am looking to establish an incentive plan for our employees who are instrumental in preventing fraud or forgeries. Something such as a predetermined scale based on the money saved or other any other appropriate standard. Any suggestions?

Our branches save their teller trash for one week in tied plastic bags. There is a long tradition of doing this in banking for researching out of balance situations or disputes. In our highly computerized environment, and concern for customer information security, it does not seem that there would be any value from a research standpoint in saving this garbage now. Anything with customer information would be shredded. I am interested in your thoughts on this.

Is there any information available on how to identify suspicious activity regarding charitable organizations? Is there any activity that tellers specifically may be able to watch for?
