When opening an account for a new customer must the individual present his or her social security card or provide documentation to verify the SS#, as a result of the provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act? Is not providing the SS# along with proper ID enough? Many individuals don't have anything with the SS# on it or carry it with them. We don't want to turn prospective account holders away for not having their SS Card.

New joint signer lives in China and does not have a social security number. The primary signer lives in Washington and has a SSN. Bank Secrecy Act states each signer must have an ID number on file. Would we have them complete W-8 BEN to add her to the account?

When opening an account for non-resident alien can we use a social security number from a card that has "not valid except for work purposes only" printed on it or should this customer complete a W8BEN?

When opening a DDA in an individual's name, DBA as a company, can we use the individual's social security number, or are we required to use a business tax ID number?

I have a customer who has an LLC set up with one owner. They would like to use their own social security number. Would I set this up any differently? Do I use his name or the name of the LLC first on our computer system? I was concerned with the interest reporting.

One of the owners of a joint account has died and was the individual whose social security number was certified when opening the account. Is there a time limit on getting the survivng owner's social security number certified?

Two Questions 1) I'm interested in any discussion and or procedures in place to underwrite consumer loans when applicant does not have a Social Security # however does have a TIN (Tax Identification Number)? 2) Is there anyway to determine if a TIN # is a valid number?

We have a customer changing an account to an irrevocable living trust, using her social security number as a TIN. I don't have anything that says that she is required to have a separate TIN. What are your thoughts?
