One of the owners of a joint account has died and was the individual whose social security number was certified when opening the account. Is there a time limit on getting the survivng owner's social security number certified?

We have a bit of disagreement going on when it comes to Trust accounts. When the accounts are placed on the computer system should the SS# be the Trustee's name if they are the grantor and if they are not should we require a tax ID # for the trust?

Today I was notified by copy of death certificate that one of our accountholders died. This was a sole owner of the account with 5 beneficiaries (all children of the accountholder). I am uncertain about how to distribute funds to the beneficiaries because the accountholder died last November and we were just now notified. How should interest earnings be reported for the earnings since November? Should the account balance just be split between the 5 beneficiaries and all earnings be reported under the deceased's SS#. We do not have SS# for all beneficiaries. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

We have a customer changing an account to an irrevocable living trust, using her social security number as a TIN. I don't have anything that says that she is required to have a separate TIN. What are your thoughts?

A father opened a DDA account in the name of his six year old son. The six year old's SSN was used. The six year old did not sign any documents. The father did sign. The father is signing all checks drawn on this account. Can a six year old legitimately have a DDA account? Is this account OK without the primary account holder signing anything?
